Badlands, Bad Roads and A Black Canyon. Our Week August 1-7.
This week we found ourselves in the great state of Kansas. I know.... how many people have you heard say that before.... but it really is an awesome state. We enjoyed our stay in this state and found some pretty amazing sights along the way. Our stop over was at Lake Scott State Park. It is a little off a well traveled road but so worth the effort.
There are several bike trails to enjoy throughout the park Incredible sunsets |
As if this park was not enough right down the road is another state parks. The Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park.
This small but exciting state park has a couple of hiking trails around this stunning landscape.
It was just one stunning formation after another.
After a long day of hiking Smokey was wore out.
What a great stay this had been but we needed to keep moving so we packed of the RV and headed west. Now this is where our journey takes a little detour....LITERALLY
Let me explain....When I planned this trip I had intended to travel through Colorado on highway 50 and make a stopover at The Black Canyon of the Gunnison.
After I made our reservation I discovered that parts of highway 50 were closed for construction.
Sadly I changed our reservations to drive further north to Denver and cross over to Grand Junction.
This route would take us through I70. Two days before we were to travel on I70 there was a mudslide that closed down a section of the road indefinitely, or at least for now.
Take a guess at which road they opened up for a detour....yes it was highway 50 the route I had originally planned.
Now that doesn't seem too bad... I mean just a couple of hours out of our way, however, when we plugged in the route to take we had turned of the filter that chose roads meant for large motorhomes. We ended up on some very tight and scary roads that could be traversed in large vehicles but probably should not.
You get the idea..at times it was very tense but on a great note we ended up passing right beside The Black Canyon of The Gunnison and simply could not pass up the opportunity to see this stunning place.
So after all everything turned out the way it was suppose to be and we were able to enjoy the Black Canyon after all. There are two verses in the Bible that always comes to my mind during times like this. They are Romans 8:28 "All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose". And also Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6: In all thy ways acknowledge him, and He shall direct thy paths."
So even if there are times that seem out of control as long as you TRUST God in ALL THINGS it will always turn out exactly as it should.
Whew! It was a crazy and active week, I thank you for following along and I hope that you enjoyed a little glimpse into Our Beautiful Everyday.
Love your pics!!!
